Tuesday prayer

In the midst of fear over this global pandemic, in the midst of worry about job loss and economic chaos, in the midst of concern for loved ones who are particularly vulnerable to this new coronavirus, we have an anchor, a Rock who cannot be moved.

Let us continue to pray for those in leadership, for healthcare officials, and for those in financial distress, but let us not forget that even in the midst of the storm, our God is with us and he will not let us go. He never promised an easy life. He never promised a life of no struggle and no storms. What he promised is that he would never leave us when the struggles come and that he would be right there with us in the midst of the storm.

As we spend time in prayer today, let us be sure to praise our God for who he is. If he never did a kind thing for us, if he never sent Jesus to save us from our sins, if he never gave us any good thing, he would still be worthy of worship and praise. Though that is true, the only way we can know that it is true, that he is good and is worthy of worship and praise, is he has acted with kindness toward us. He sent his only Son to save us. He has given us all good things in Christ. He is worthy of praise for who he is, and he is worthy of praise for what he has done.

In the midst of the storms of life, we have an anchor, a Rock who cannot be moved. Let the words of Psalm 18 be our prayer today.

Ps 18:1    I love you, O LORD, my strength.
2 The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
3 I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised,
and I am saved from my enemies.

Praise God for who he is. Pray for his glory to be revealed in the midst of the pain and chaos our world is experiencing. Pray for his will to be done in us and through us. Pray for the advance of his kingdom and for revival to come. Pray for God to show us how to love our neighbors in the midst of this storm. Pray for God to show us his greatness today, that we might respond rightly by praising him and proclaiming his great Name to those around us.
