Thank God It’s Friday

April 3, 2020 by J-T

It is vitally important for humans to praise God. It is the truest thing a created being can do. To praise God is to proclaim the characteristics and qualities that make him great. Since his perfections are infinitely great, praising him for them is the truest thing a created being can do.

Failure to praise God has one possible outcome:

For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

Romans 1:21-23

Praise is an act of worship. In the verses above Paul shows the inevitable outcome of not praising God. Those who do not honor him will become futile in their thinking and their hearts will be darkened. Failure to worship God always results in the worship of something (or someone) else. Since there is only one God and the worship of him is the truest thing a created being can do, failure to praise him is the very opposite of a true thing. It is to live a lie, to live in darkness.

Let’s be true today. Let’s be a people who praise our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, for he is the only God. He is the Creator of all that has been created. He is merciful and kind and loving and patient. He is faithful and true. Every morning we receive new mercies and every night grace is piled on top of grace.

Today many will look to federal unemployment reports and worry about unemployment rates. Many will learn of Governor Whitmer’s latest Executive Order and wonder what it will mean for the future of K-12 education all across Michigan. Many will see bad news, whether online or on television or hear it over the radio. These things are important, but they are not true in the same sense our God is true. The simple fact is our God is good and he can be trusted, no matter what today’s news has to say.

Let us spend our time praying today praising Jesus. Let’s thank God it’s Friday. Let’s praise him for the countless ways he is worthy of it.
